Asphalt is a composite material consisting of bituminous binder and mineral aggregate mixed together and then laid down at high temperatures in layers and compacted. An Asphalt Pavement is a pavement, in which the predominant structural strength is provided by asphalt layers. The use of bituminous binder ensures that the pavement remains flexible. A flexible pavement is a road pavement with a structure that deflects, or flexes, under loading. A flexible pavement structure is typically composed of several layers of material. Each layer receives the loads from the above layer, spreads them out, and then passes on these loads to the next layer below.
