Recently, Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) welcomed Volkswagen Group Australia as the newest Member to the Tyre Product Stewardship Scheme (the Scheme).
Volkswagen has shown its commitment to tyre recycling, joining the Scheme to responsibly dispose of end-of-life tyres from their dealer network across Australia. TSA CEO, Lina Goodman welcomes Volkswagen Australia stating, “We congratulate them for being the first auto maker to take the vital step towards positive social and environmental outcomes.”
Volkswagen Australia is a very welcome addition along with their dealer network of over 100 locations, meaning consumers can be assured that there will be a TSA-accredited tyre store or service centre, offering a TSA member tyre brand, near them.
Volkswagen Group Australia Managing Director Michael Bartsch said “Tyres are a by-product of the car business and the necessity to have used tyres responsibly collected and disposed of, or preferably recycled, is a responsibility that is incumbent on everyone who sells cars.”
Volkswagen will pay a levy based on an annual figure of more 400,000 plus tyres based on 2018 sales figures, on new cars sold into the Australian marketplace. Volkswagen Australia has joined Goodyear, Bridgestone, Continental, Pirelli, Michelin, Kumho, Toyo and Yokohama as a TSA financially contributing member.
